What Our Survey Revealed About Normal People's Willingness to Pay High Prices for Detailing

We recently conducted a primary survey of 91 respondents across a diverse mix of demographics, locations, and income levels to better understand how people in the Cincinnati area value interior car detailing. The results were eye-opening: only 9% of respondents said they would be willing to pay $200 for a baseline interior detail.
That number isn’t arbitrary—it represents the average cost for interior detailing in the Cincinnati area today per our own primary research. Many detailers charge even more, justified by the industry’s high gross margins. In fact, it’s common to see operators running at 80% or higher gross margins on detailing services.
The result? Pricing that unintentionally pushes out more than 90% of potential customers.
At Clean Value Detailing, we see an opportunity in that gap. Instead of chasing the top 5-10% of the market, our mission is to bring professional-grade detailing within reach for everyone. We want to reclaim as much as we can of the rest of the population by offering high value services at affordable price points. We sacrifice some profitability with the goal of serving more people and making it up in the long run by doing so.
By focusing on efficiency, simple service offerings, and consistent quality, our goal is simple: serve more people, deliver exceptional results, and build a lasting reputation based on trust and value. Because at the end of the day, a clean car shouldn’t be a luxury—it should be something everyone can afford.
